As people increase the plant foods in their diet and decrease the processed foods as well as heavy meats and cheeses they can lower their cholesterol and lose weight. Mark Bittman, a food critic, was given a choice: change his diet or take drugs to lower his cholesterol. He chose the former and knocked off 30 pounds as well.
